Green Light To GerryMander, With Wild Abandon ...
The Supreme Court has come up with a couple of dismaying decisions this week.

But, being a responsible Texan, here's the most dismaying: The Supremes have decided that any state can redistrict any time they want to.

From MSNBC:
WASHINGTON - A fractured Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that states are free to redraw congressional districts whenever they want, largely blessing Tom DeLay’s bitterly contested handiwork in Texas and the gains it gave national Republicans
While I guess there's a good point made about the Latino districts along the border, the current redistricting does in fact reflect that Texas is basically a Republican state these days, and it's fair.

However, considering the nature of our distinguished Texas legislators, we could be in for redistricting every six months, every time a Congressman wants to buy a new house outside his district. I wonder how long it'll be before some enterprising Texas Democrat wants to gerrymander Ardmore Oklahoma into his district ...

Offered for trackback at Beth's.
